SSA estimated that the average retired-worker benefit would rise from about $2,015 to about $2,071 a month after the 2.8% COLA. Individual payments vary based on each person’s earnings record and circumstances.
What else changed in 2026?

The federal maximum SSI payment is $994 a month for an eligible individual and $1,491 for an eligible couple before reductions for countable income or other adjustments.
What newcomers should know
Social Security eligibility is based on specific US work-credit, residency and programme rules. Moving to the United States does not automatically make someone eligible for these payments. If you are already a beneficiary, check your personal SSA account or official notice for your exact amount.
