Free Entrance to OPW Heritage Sites

On the first Wednesday of every month, OPW Heritage in Ireland gives you the chance to visit amazing places in Dublin for free. During the tour, you will visit Phoenix Park, for instance, which is the largest public park in Europe. It was originally formed in 1660 for royal hunting and opened for the public in 1747. Nowadays, a zoo as well as a Victorian flower garden are situated in the park. However, the main attraction in the park are deer. You have to be lucky to find them! Farmleigh House is also established in Phoenix Park. The building was used by the government and the Botanic Gardens. In the Pearse Museum, you can admire Irish flora and fauna and other interesting exhibitions.

Even though most of the tourist attractions require you to buy a ticket, on this day, admission will be free. It’s a great opportunity to visit Dublin Castle and Bru na Boinne Visitor Centre at Newgrange. Additionally, you can visit Rathfarnham Castle which was built for Archbishop Adam Loftus. Although  the castle was remodeled, in the 18th Century, it’s still considered an example of a fortified house . On these days, the Casino Marino and the Glendalough Visitor Centre in Wicklow will also be free for visitors. The Glendalough  is one of the most popular and important monastic sites in Ireland. It was founded in 6th century.

The trip is very popular, so that we highly recommend you to wake up early, because once all the tickets have been given away, there is no more access to those places.
